At the moment, Barcelona is determined to resolve the situation. A source told ESPN that president Joan Laporta will not make any public statements until Dani Olmo and Pau Victor are registered.
With the €28 million in bank savings, Barca argued that some delays had prevented them from meeting the December 31, 2024 deadline. And they have submitted an application for a new license for both players to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
However, RFEF's rules state that players cannot re-register with the same team for the second time in the same season. A Russian Federation referee source also told ESPN that they "cannot handle any licenses without prior approval from La Liga". As for the Catalan team, they are against that explanation in this case.
With the latest refusal, Barca will take the case to court. But Olmo and Victor face being sidelined for at least six months. One option is to continue staying at Barcelona and practicing, as they did last week, but will definitely not be able to play.
Olmo has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for free if he fails to register successfully. However, the Spaniard has always maintained that he does not want to do that provision. Olmo representative Andy Bara reiterated that view and said that the EURO 2024 champion only cares about Barcelona.
However, that stance may need to be reconsidered. With no longer a license with RFEF, after Olmo's registration is canceled, even a short-term move will be complicated.
Therefore, a complex deal will have to be made when Olmo's contract is canceled, allowing him to join another club for 6 months before returning to Barca to re-sign in the summer.
The same is true of Victor. According to Spanish media, Real Betis, Espanyol and some clubs in the Segunda Division have asked to be informed if Victor is allowed to leave in the near future.
It should be noted that Barcelona will fall into a ironic situation this month if they cannot register Olmo and Victor. They cannot use Olmo and Victor, but are allowed to sign players from other places.
