The match between England and Uruguay took place at a vibrant pace right from the first minutes. With home advantage, the "Three Lions" entered the game proactively, continuously putting pressure with high balls and long shots.
In the 4th minute, Harry Maguire had a chance to finish from a corner kick but the ball went over the bar. The away team also quickly responded with fast counter-attacks, notably Agustin Canobbio's long-range shot in the 27th minute.
In the remainder of the first half, England still created more clear chances. Dominic Solanke and Marcus Rashford successively tried their luck but could not beat goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, who played solidly in goal.
In the opposite direction, Federico Valverde also had a dangerous shot from outside the penalty area but was promptly blocked by the English defense. The first half ended without a goal.
Stepping into the second half, the game continued to be balanced. In the 60th minute, Dominic Calvert-Lewin almost opened the score with a close-range finish, but Muslera once again made an excellent save.
It was not until the 82nd minute that the deadlock was broken. Ben White took advantage of the chaotic situation in the penalty area to put the ball into the Uruguay net. The goal was recognized after VAR intervened to check.
It seemed that the victory belonged to England, but drama happened in injury time. After consulting VAR, the referee awarded Uruguay a penalty and Valverde successfully converted it in the 90+4 minute, setting the score at 1-1.
