Yan Diomande's refusal of Liverpool to join Real Madrid does not only stem from the transfer fee. According to British media, the meeting with new coach Andoni Iraola made the Ivory Coast talent realize that Liverpool is entering a transitional period, thereby deciding to choose the Bernabeu stadium.
Liverpool were very determined to recruit Diomande after the 19-year-old player's explosive season for RB Leipzig and the Ivory Coast team at the 2026 World Cup. However, the £85 million offer from the Anfield club was rejected by Leipzig and they did not accept raising the price to the required level of about £111 million.
Paris Saint-Germain also joined the race and is said to have reached a personal agreement with Diomande, but the reigning Champions League champions also did not meet the fee that Leipzig requested.
