Thailand team strongly increased in rankings after the successful ASEAN Cup 2026 group stage, while Vietnam team is still ranked 99th in the world.

The latest FIFA rankings have shown the positions of Southeast Asian national teams after the ASEAN Cup 2026 group stage ended.

The Vietnamese team ranked first in Group A with 10 points after 3 wins, 1 draw, scoring 13 goals and conceding 1 goal. Coach Kim Sang-sik's team was added 4.25 points after victories against Timor-Leste, Indonesia and Cambodia.

However, the team was also deducted 0.77 points for being held to a 0-0 draw by Singapore at home. In total, the Vietnamese team was added 3.48 points after the ASEAN Cup group stage, raising their accumulated points to 1230.68 points and still ranked 99th in the world.

Meanwhile, the Thai team was added up to 5.93 points to increase 4 places to rank 90th in the world. Coach Anthony Hudson's team won all 4 matches in the group stage when they defeated the Lao team 5-0, Malaysia 2-0, Philippines 1-0 and Myanmar 2-0.

With this ranking, Thailand is temporarily surpassing Zambia, China and Benin. If they maintain this position after the end of ASEAN Cup 2026, the "War Elephants" will have the best FIFA ranking in nearly 20 years.

The Malaysian team, the opponent of the Vietnamese team in the semi-finals, was added 4.50 points but still ranked 136th in the world. They are behind the Philippines team, who were deducted 5.75 points after a group stage match that was unsuccessful.

The Indonesian team was only deducted 0.09 points and still ranked 118th in the world. The Singapore team was added 4.55 points but still maintained the 148th position in the world.

The ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-finals will take place with matches between Vietnam vs Malaysia and Thailand vs Singapore. The rankings of the teams will certainly have slight fluctuations after this round.
