On the morning of August 2, on his personal Facebook, overseas Vietnamese player Martin Lo posted a farewell on the pitch. The decision of the player born in 1997 surprised fans.
For 21 years, football has given me a place to express myself in a way that words cannot speak. As an introverted Asian boy, growing up in an environment where Koreans are often overlooked and lacking representation in sports, football gave me a voice when I had not had a voice.
To all those who have truly supported me, whether in success or failure, thank you. I know who you are and I will bring that support into the next chapter of my life. Some people close to me may understand why I made this decision, but most of them don't, and that's okay for Martin Lo," Martin Lo wrote on his personal page.
In 2019, Martin Lo returned to Vietnam from Australia and quickly created attraction. His technical playing style helped him be called up to the U23 Vietnam squad by coach Park Hang-seo to prepare for the 30th SEA Games.
In the 2024-2025 season, Martin Lo will wear the PVF-CAND shirt after 5 years of playing for Hai Phong. Despite being injured at the beginning of the season, this player still made his mark with classy free kicks.
Returning to the story of retirement, Martin Lo will likely focus on business and taking care of his small family. He is building a coffee brand in Hai Phong with his close friend Luong Xuan Truong.
