Van Lam is under psychological pressure
On the evening of September 5, the Vietnamese team had their opening match of the LPBank Cup 2024 friendly tournament against the Russian team. Coach Kim Sang-sik's players had a good match. However, under great pressure from their opponents, the Vietnamese team was defeated with a score of 0-3.
Sharing his feelings after the match, coach Kim Sang-sik said: "Today is a home match, I want to apologize to the fans for not being able to win. However, the Vietnamese players did not give up, trying to put pressure on the opponent's field, but unfortunately they could not score a goal or get a better result."
In the second goal conceded by the Vietnamese team, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam missed the ball and it rolled into the net. Talking about this situation, coach Kim Sang-sik said that Van Lam was under psychological pressure.
"At the beginning of the second half, the team's playing tempo was better, but we made some mistakes that led to the loss. I think Van Lam was under some psychological pressure when facing the Russian team. But I won't share anything more with Van Lam after this match. I think he needs time to calm down and prepare better for the next matches. However, he still had a good match," coach Kim Sang-sik added.
Regarding the performance of players Hai Long and Vi Hao, coach Kim Sang-sik commented: "I am satisfied with Hai Long, Vi Hao as well as some young players who had the opportunity to play today. They performed well, creating space to move. In particular, Vi Hao led the match well, better than I expected."
"Vietnam is a good team!"
On the other side of the front line, coach Valery Karpin also highly appreciated the performance of the Vietnamese team.
He said: "The level of the Vietnamese team compared to Europe is not a strong team. But today they created some dangerous opportunities. I think the Vietnamese team has good level, good players, although their physical strength is not outstanding. However, I still rate Vietnam as a good team.
Today's match was hot and sunny, so I was quite satisfied with the performance of the Russian team. If the match had taken place in Russia, and we were used to the weather and the field, this result might not have been as satisfying. We scored 3 goals but also missed many opportunities."
"Regarding the mistake of the Vietnamese goalkeeper, I think that is not the important thing that made Russia play better. The most important thing is our first goal. The second goal was the goalkeeper's mistake, but there was also a part of the defender's fault. On the field, it is impossible to be 100% perfect and such situations can absolutely happen," coach Valery Karpin added about Van Lam's mistake.
