Huynh Nhu has contributed to Vietnamese women's football for more than 15 years. Most of her career is associated with the Ho Chi Minh City women's team. However, she also played in Portugal for two years in the colors of Vilaverdense club, this time helped her realize the potential of Asian players.
I had the opportunity to experience a professional environment for about two years, and during that time I learned a lot. In Europe, players often have better physical strength, high technique and innate talent.
However, Asian players also have strengths in agility and technique. I believe that with the current development of Asian football, we will gradually catch up with world football," Huynh Nhu shared with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Although he has worn the Vietnamese national team jersey more than 100 times and scored 70 goals, the excitement and feeling of achievement every time he wears the Vietnamese national team jersey is still present in the mind of this 34-year-old player.
Being selected for the Vietnamese national football team is a great pride and the greatest honor in my career and life. Every time I wear the red shirt with the yellow star of the Vietnamese national team, I feel extremely proud, along with a strong sense of responsibility.
I want to inspire this generation of young players, so that they can continue to strive and contribute to Vietnamese football, helping the country develop further and get closer to the international arena. For me, each player in the Vietnamese national team is very talented, and my teammates are always ready to share and support each other.
I don't feel too much responsibility because everyone shares together, and we consider each other as a family. Therefore, we will dedicate ourselves and fight with everything we have for the jersey and pride of the Vietnamese national team," Huynh Nhu shared.
In the immediate future, Huynh Nhu and the Vietnamese women's team are aiming for the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship. This is her 3rd continental tournament after the tournaments in 2018 and 2022. The Vietnamese women's team was eliminated in the group stage in Jordan in 2018 but reached the quarterfinals 4 years later and won a ticket to the 2023 Women's World Cup.
Witnessing the rapid development of Vietnamese women's football recently, Huynh Nhu is confident that the tournament will improve even more when this striker aims to score more goals after the two goals she scored four years ago.
This is the third time I have participated in the Asian Championship, and every year I feel everything is very different. In particular, the level of teams in the region has become closer, and the gap between them is gradually narrowing. This has increased competitiveness and created a very attractive tournament.
I hope that in this tournament, the competition will be even stronger and the gap between teams will no longer be too large. The tournament will bring a high-quality competition and attract many fans to the stadium to watch and cheer for the matches.
The goal of the Vietnamese women's team at this tournament is first of all to get through the group stage. After that, we will aim to win a World Cup spot," Huynh Nhu emphasized.
At the 2026 Asian Championship, the Vietnamese women's team is in Group C with the Japan, India, and Taiwan (China) teams. The Vietnamese women's team is assessed to have many opportunities to win tickets to the quarter-finals. In case of reaching the semi-finals, Huynh Nhu and her teammates will win tickets to the 2027 Women's World Cup.
