The 5-0 victory over Myanmar helped Vietnam qualify for the semi-finals as the top scorer in Group B. In addition to goals from Vi Hao, Quang Hai and Tien Linh, striker Nguyen Xuan Son also scored a double in his first time wearing the national team jersey.
The appearance of the striker born in 1997 caused many difficulties for the opposing defense. Xuan Son played quickly, skillfully, pressed and competed well, making it very difficult for the Myanmar players to intercept.
Notably, after the match ended, the camera lens on the field accidentally captured the moment Xuan Son and Soe Moe Kyaw (Myanmar) had a post-match exchange. The Vietnamese striker even raised his hand in a V sign (possibly indicating 2 goals), making many people curious.
Responding in the post-match press conference, Nguyen Xuan Son revealed his conversation with his opponent: "Myanmar's number 4 player (Soe Moe Kyaw) said that I am not Vietnamese. I replied that I love and am attached to Vietnam. My family has lived here for 5 years, this is my homeland.
I feel very comfortable living in Vietnam and I will try my best to contribute to the Vietnam team."
Coach Kim Sang-sik praised Xuan Son: "Son played his first match for the Vietnamese team but performed very impressively and showed that he deserves to be on the team. The Vietnamese team has returned, more energetic than before and we will focus on preparing for the match against Singapore in the semi-finals."
