In the final round of the 2024 ASEAN Cup group stage, the Vietnamese team will face the Myanmar team. Attention in this match will be focused on naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son as he is now eligible to play for the Vietnamese team.
This afternoon (December 20), Nguyen Xuan Son was also the player assigned to attend the pre-match press conference with head coach Kim Sang-sik.
At the beginning of the press conference, Nguyen Xuan Son shared his and the team's goals for the match against Myanmar. He said: "I am very excited about tomorrow's match. Although the recent travel has been a bit tiring, the whole team is very focused and confident to win."
The striker born in 1997 said he practiced singing the National Anthem every day and was confident he could sing the National Anthem completely in the match against Myanmar.
Regarding his wish to join the Vietnamese team, Xuan Son shared: "For me, this is a wonderful and memorable moment in my life. I am happy to be here. I have received support from the coaching staff and teammates and I hope I can contribute to the national team. Regarding how to celebrate if I score, I really haven't thought about that. But what I want most right now is to have a good performance."
Meanwhile, coach Kim Sang-sik also expects Nguyen Xuan Son to have a good performance to give fans in his debut match for the Vietnamese team.
"The Vietnamese team is very lucky to have Xuan Son in the squad. Tomorrow is his first match. I see that Xuan Son has good physical strength and technique, this is a new start for Vietnam. The coaching staff is very hopeful about Son's performance and hopes that Son will also perform well for Vietnamese fans.
Having Xuan Son in the squad is a good thing. I hope Tien Linh and Xuan Son will coordinate well, show good form and bring efficiency to the team," said coach Kim Sang-sik.
The match between Vietnam and Myanmar will take place at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow (December 21) at Viet Tri Stadium.
