On the afternoon of September 18, U23 Vietnam won 2-0 against U23 Philippines in the 2nd match at ASIAD 20. This result helped Cao Van Binh and his teammates get closer to a ticket to the semi-finals.
Speaking after the match, coach Dinh Hong Vinh shared: "I am very happy at this moment, and would like to dedicate this feeling to my students who showed a very resilient match. We would also like to dedicate this victory to the audience and Vietnamese fans.
This coach added: "Before the match, U23 Philippines lost to Uzbekistan 1-5, while both teams still had 1 more match ahead. Therefore, when entering the game, they retreated deep with 10 people in their own half, making it very difficult for U23 Vietnam to attack.
At the end of the first half, the coaching staff adjusted, encouraging everyone to participate in attack, how to attract passing to the back of the opponent's defense and we have a good result today".
Coach Dinh Hong Vinh also said that the way U23 Philippines organized defense narrowed the space in front of the penalty area. U23 Vietnam had to patiently find a way to put the ball behind the opponent's defense, instead of just focusing on coordination in the central area.
Changes made after the break quickly created a difference. U23 Vietnam increased pressure, while players in the lower line were also encouraged to participate in the attacking organization process. Thanh Nhan opened the score before Le Phat scored the second goal to help Vietnam win their first victory at ASIAD 20.
In the opening match, coach Dinh Hong Vinh's team drew 1-1 with U23 Kuwait despite creating many chances. Therefore, 3 points against the Philippines are of great significance before the final match.
Another detail mentioned by coach Dinh Hong Vinh is related to the black shirt he wore.
My students and I are very happy about today's victory. In football, sometimes on the field, we attack a lot during 90 minutes without luck and the results are not good.
But today my students, including Nhat Minh, gossiped about "inciting" the coach to change black shirts for good luck today, and I tried to follow suit. That's football. Of course, this is just for fun, but in football, in 90 minutes of play, there is always room for luck," Mr. Vinh said.
