On the evening of December 21, the Vietnamese team hosted Myanmar in the final match of Group B of the 2024 ASEAN Cup at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).
In the 57th minute, striker Van Toan was fouled by an opposing player. Receiving a pass from Quang Hai, Van Toan moved quickly but player number 19 Oakkar Naing fiercely blocked him. After this situation, the Vietnamese striker was still able to play, but only about 2 minutes later, he could not continue playing.
Van Toan had to seek help from the medical team. The Nam Dinh striker burst into tears, clearly showing his pain. He left the field on a stretcher. Nguyen Tien Linh was the one who came on to replace Van Toan.
The extent of player number 9's injury is currently unknown. After the match, the coaching staff and medical team will conduct an accurate examination and have more information about Van Toan's condition.
Returning to the match, after 90 minutes of regulation time, the Vietnamese team won 5-0 against the Myanmar team. This result helped coach Kim Sang-sik and his team advance to the semi-finals as the top team in Group B. The opponent of the "Golden Star Warriors" will be the Singapore team.
