In the 57th minute of the match between Vietnam and Myanmar at Viet Tri Stadium (December 21), striker Nguyen Van Toan was injured after a foul by his opponent.
Accordingly, after receiving a pass from Quang Hai, Van Toan moved quickly but player number 19 Oakkar Naing fiercely blocked him. This tackle caused the Vietnamese striker to fall to the ground and could not continue playing, requiring the support of the medical team.
The Nam Dinh striker burst into tears, clearly showing his pain. He left the field on a stretcher and gave way to Tien Linh for the rest of the match.
On the morning of December 22, striker Van Toan was taken for an X-ray by a doctor to determine the extent of his injury. The results showed that he had a bruised ligament in his right knee and needed time to recover.
According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Van Toan's chances of playing in the semi-finals are not high. This player still travels to Singapore to receive care and treatment from the medical team.
However, speaking to Lao Dong, a doctor at V.League said: "With this type of injury, Van Toan needs at least 3 weeks, or longer than 1 month for treatment. Players must not be subjective with ligament injuries."
Thus, Nguyen Van Toan is at high risk of saying goodbye to the ASEAN Cup 2024, not just missing the semi-final match, because the tournament is only 2 weeks away from ending.
