Coach Kim Sang-sik has just finished a short break with his family in his home country to return to Vietnam, continue with the work cycle, prepare for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers and aim for the 33rd SEA Games.
After winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup with the Vietnamese team, the Korean coach has more motivation and confidence to continue his work. The recent victory also helped the 48-year-old coach quickly attract the attention of the Korean media.
Recently, a group of reporters from KBS - Korean Broadcasting and Television Station went to Vietnam to make a report about coach Kim Sang-sik.
They said that the captain of the Vietnamese team himself is quite famous in the Korean national football championship (K.League), so the 2024 ASEAN Cup championship that he won with the Vietnamese team was dissected and analyzed by many Korean media channels.
Reporter Park Sun-woo said that Korean media and fans expect Mr. Kim Sang-sik to have the same success as his compatriot Park Hang-seo.
"I think many Korean fans feel happy about the victory of Mr. Kim Sang-sik in particular and the Vietnamese team in general. Many Korean newspapers have reported on the past victories of coach Park Hang-seo and Vietnamese football and now it is Mr. Kim Sang-sik's turn.
The Korean media reacted to the victories of these two coaches a little differently. Park Hang-seo’s success with the Vietnamese team was considered greater because he had not achieved success in the Korean domestic tournament in the past, which coach Kim Sang-sik was far superior to. Therefore, when Park Hang-seo continuously achieved victories with the Vietnamese team, the Korean media exploded for a long time.
As for coach Kim Sang-sik, he faced many challenges when he first took office, and even had his abilities questioned. This was only Kim's first victory, so our country's media may not be as lively as it was under coach Park Hang-seo. However, this can completely change.
Many Korean fans talk about coach Kim Sang-sik becoming the second Park Hang-seo of Vietnamese football. I see that they are very happy about this and expect many good things in the future," said a KBS reporter.
Reporter Park Sun-woo also said that he knows some players in Vietnam such as Cong Phuong because the player from Nghe An used to play in Korea. Besides that, there are Quang Hai and Phan Van Duc. These two players are most known to the Korean people because of the time they worked with Mr. Park Hang-seo.
As for coach Kim Sang-sik, in the coming time, he and his assistants will split up to watch matches in national professional tournaments to ensure the best preparation for the team, before entering the first match of the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, taking place at FIFA Days next March.
