The Vietnamese team will only play one match during FIFA Days in October 2024. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will host India at Thien Truong Stadium (Nam Dinh) and draw 1-1.
This result caused the Vietnamese team to lose 0.27 points, down to 1161.11 points. Based on the results of the friendly matches/3rd qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in October of other teams, Vietnam is at risk of falling 3 places, falling to 119th place on the FIFA rankings.
The reason is because some national teams in Africa have had good results in recent times. Comoros team from 118 to 108, Sudan team from 120 to 110 and Zimbabwe team from 124 to 117.
Vietnam has dropped 25 places since October last year, a result of a series of disappointing defeats under Troussier, as well as a number of defeats and draws (2nd round of World Cup 2026 qualifiers, friendly matches) when Kim Sang-sik led the team.
The 119th position in the world is the lowest ranking of the Vietnamese team since November 2017 (when it was ranked 125th). After Mr. Park Hang-seo took charge, the Vietnamese team remained in the top 100 from November 2018 to January 2024.
In addition to Vietnam, Southeast Asian teams also have changes. The Indonesian team may drop one place in the FIFA rankings (130th position) after a 1-1 draw with Bahrain and a 1-2 loss to China in the third qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup.
Malaysia will drop 1 place to 133rd, Philippines will increase 3 places to 145th. In contrast, Thailand is expected to increase 4 places to 96th after winning the 2026 King's Cup, respectively Philippines 3-1 and Syria 2-1.
