According to information from the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control (Provincial Center for Disease Control), the whole province currently has 1,394 people living with HIV/AIDS. In recent years, Quang Ngai has had more HIV-infected patients, most of whom are young people.
In 2025 alone, the whole province had 73 more cases of HIV infection, mainly young people and including students.
Specialist Doctor I Pham Van Long - Head of the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control (Provincial Center for Disease Control) said that 100% of HIV-infected people being treated are infected due to unsafe sex. In young people, HIV transmission through male homosexual sex occurs.
“A rather worrying thing is that many young people when infected with HIV are very self-conscious, self-deprecating and think that the door of their lives has closed, so they are not enthusiastic about treatment. This is a misconception. To make these patients follow the treatment regimen, we have to use many psychological methods to persuade them,” shared Dr. Pham Van Long.
The Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control is currently managing and treating about 950 HIV patients. Patients follow the treatment regimen with ARV antiviral drugs, so their health is stable. Because the drug has the effect of inhibiting the replication of the virus, helping to protect the patient's immune system and prevent opportunistic infections.
Recently, the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control performed a test on HIV viral load in the blood for patients undergoing treatment. The results showed that 760/950 patients had HIV viral load below the detection threshold. This also means that these HIV-infected people are no longer able to transmit HIV to others during sexual intercourse. At the same time, when the viral load is controlled, HIV-infected people can completely live with HIV healthily.
From the remarkable results when participating in HIV treatment with ARV drugs, the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control recommends that HIV-infected patients, especially young people, should not avoid it, but proactively go to medical facilities for timely treatment. Complying with the ARV drug treatment regimen, each HIV patient can confidently continue their journey of living steadily and healthily.
