The story of a young wife named Mai Huong (character name changed) has recently been shared on social networks, attracting attention because of the pressure surrounding income differences and economic responsibility in marriage.
According to sharing, the couple currently has a son over one year old and is living with her parents-in-law. While her husband has a salary of about 5 million VND per month, the wife's main income is about 25 million VND. To have more money to cover living expenses and raise children, she has to do 2-3 jobs at the same time, raising the total income to about 35 million VND/month.
However, what makes the wife feel tired does not entirely lie in the income gap.
Ms. Huong said that she can accept her husband earning less money if she sees him striving to change. But after many years, her husband still maintains the rhythm of life that she considers too peaceful and has no intention of finding more work to improve his economy.
I told my husband many times about finding more work in the evening, but he didn't want to. This has been going on for 5-6 years without any change. I am really tired," the wife shared.
According to her, the accumulated frustration is increasing when most of the living expenses in the family are based on her income. Each month, her husband transfers about 2 million VND to help with expenses, while electricity and water bills alone have reached about 2.5 million VND.
Normally in the month, I try not to think about it, but every day my husband receives his salary and transfers me 2 million VND, I want to cry again. I do many things at the same time but always feel like I have to continue to earn money," Ms. Huong expressed.
The wife said that she had thought about divorce but was worried about raising children after breaking up. With her husband's income of 5 million VND per month, she does not know how much he can provide for the children, while currently most of the expenses for raising children and family living have been borne by her.
Besides the pressure between husband and wife, the financial story in her husband's family also made her think many times.
According to the wife, her parents-in-law have 5 plots of land, but life still often has to borrow money to cover living expenses. She once lent her mother-in-law more than half of the maternity money, but it has not been repaid until now.
The couple also tried to move out to rent a house to live separately, but living expenses increased. Notably, even when living separately, the two still had to send money back to help their parents-in-law.
Meanwhile, her biological parents are farmers, the economy is not abundant, but she said that she has never had to send money back to support her family.
This makes the wife wonder if the fact that her husband's family has a lot of land will make her husband develop a mentality of dependence or not.
I don't need my husband to earn more money than me. I also don't require him to have an income of tens of millions of VND per month. What I need is effort and the feeling that husband and wife are shouldering the family together," Ms. Huong shared.
The story is receiving many mixed opinions. Some people think that low income is not the biggest problem in marriage, the important thing is each person's attitude, responsibility and effort. However, there are also opinions that prolonged economic pressure and the disparity in financial responsibility can gradually turn marital love into fatigue and disappointment.
Currently, the wife still does not know whether to continue patiently waiting for her husband to change or choose another direction for her marriage.
