The authorities of Dong Nai suggest that businesses should focus on health check-ups and arrange suitable jobs for workers (employees).
6 workers died in the first 6 months due to illness
According to the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs of Dong Nai province, in the first 6 months of 2024, there were 440 labor accidents in Dong Nai province, causing 30 deaths. If in the whole year of 2023 there was only 1 case of employee death due to illness, then in just the first 6 months of 2024, there were 6 cases of employee death due to illness.
Recently, in April 2024, at a construction site in Long Thanh district, victim V.V.P (from Nghe An) went down to the pit of the bridge pier to clean up tools before ending the workday as assigned. Then, co-workers found victim P unconscious in the water pit and immediately called for help to take him to the hospital, but he later died due to illness.
To ensure the rights of employees, many enterprise union officials believe that businesses must strictly comply with regulations on labor safety and hygiene to prevent labor accidents and occupational diseases, including organizing annual labor environment monitoring, periodic health check-ups, and occupational disease detection for employees.
When employees show signs of occupational disease, they need to be health assessed without avoidance. Businesses also need to take responsibility for caring for and protecting employees' health during production and business activities.
Additionally, for businesses to comply well with regulations related to labor safety and hygiene (LSH), and health care for employees, state management agencies need to strengthen inspection and supervision, correct and strictly handle violations; promote propaganda and guidance to raise awareness and responsibility of employers and employees.
Businesses need to pay attention to health of employees
Mr. Nong Van Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs of Dong Nai province - suggested that businesses should focus on health check-ups for employees and arrange jobs suitable to their health. Mr. Dung also noted that small and medium enterprises outside industrial zones and businesses in the construction industry need to pay more attention to LSH issues.
During the Action Month for LSH in 2024, the provincial inter-sectoral inspection team led by the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs inspected labor safety at construction sites and found many employers not organizing health check-ups before assigning employees to heavy, hazardous, and dangerous jobs; not training first aid for employees... The inter-sectoral team reminded and required rectification.
Also, during the Action Month for LSH in 2024, the entire Dong Nai province had 65 businesses organizing periodic health check-ups for over 67,000 employees; at the same time, detecting occupational diseases for 30,000 employees. Besides, 57 businesses organized labor environment monitoring with over 16,000 monitoring samples.
Evaluating the LSH work in the first 6 months of 2024, Mr. Nguyen Son Hung - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai province - said that many businesses, especially private enterprises, small and medium enterprises, and production and business establishments have not focused on investing in improving the working environment; have not organized labor safety and hygiene training for employees or have organized training but not fully complied with the content, time, and program as prescribed...
