Around 22:10 on July 29, 2024, at the ZH1600/16/24 hydraulic frame support coal face at -110 level, seam 12, part of the Suoi Lai mine expansion project (Phase I), Hon Gai Coal Company - TKV, Ha Long City, a group of workers consisting of 5 people encountered a sudden incident while working.
Immediately after receiving the information, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, directed the relevant authorities to the scene to coordinate with the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group to carry out rescue operations.
By 5:28 on July 30, 2024, the search and rescue operation was completed. The incident resulted in the death of 5 workers.
Initially, the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group provided support of 20 million VND per deceased person; the Vietnam Coal - Mineral Union provided support of 20 million VND per deceased person. Hon Gai Coal Company resolved the benefits according to state regulations; arranged funeral expenses for the workers; and supported the workers' families with an initial amount of 100 million VND per family.
The cause of the incident is being investigated and clarified according to regulations.
