The meeting took place under the chairmanship of Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Ms. Yoshiko Norimatsu - Deputy Secretary General of the Japan General Confederation of Labor (RENGO).
The two sides exchanged information on the workers' movement and trade union activities. At the meeting, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan affirmed that in the development process of the Vietnam Trade Union, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has received much affection and support from international friends, including RENGO. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor highly appreciated the cooperation at the central level between the General Confederation and RENGO as well as at the trade union level of the Oil and Gas, Industry and Trade, Electricity, Railway, Maritime sectors and the local level between the Ho Chi Minh City Confederation of Labor and the Osaka Provincial Trade Union, Japan.
For many years, through the cooperation program with the Japan International Labor Fund (JILAF), the Vietnam Trade Union has been supported in many areas such as training on occupational safety and hygiene, increasing labor productivity; sharing information and experience on negotiation, dialogue, and Japan's model of harmonious and constructive labor relations; sharing information and experience in building policies and laws on social security, social insurance, procedures and conditions for the establishment and operation of trade unions... according to the needs of the Vietnam Trade Union in each period. In addition, the Guest Program implemented by JILAF every year also creates opportunities for hundreds of Vietnamese Trade Union officials to access the Japanese labor relations model, the operating model as well as the practical operations of RENGO...
Regarding some activities of RENGO, according to Ms. Yoshiko Norimatsu, in addition to issues such as wages, building labor relations, and ensuring the rights of foreign workers in Japan, RENGO also focuses on developing female union members; promoting the placement of women in leadership positions.
To further promote the relationship between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and RENGO in depth, practically and effectively, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor proposes that the two sides continue to strengthen the annual exchange of high-level delegations combined with organizing seminars to exchange information and experiences; Support and facilitate the establishment of bilateral cooperation between the industry and local trade unions of the two organizations (especially local trade unions); Further expand the coordination program through the Japan International Labor Fund, continue to share experiences in other countries on supporting informal workers, a group of workers that the Vietnam Trade Union is very interested in; Share new models and experiences through seminars on labor relations; RENGO continues to care for and support, protect the rights of Vietnamese trainees in Japan...
Regarding the proposals of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Ms. Yoshiko Norimatsu said that she will exchange and discuss specific contents suitable for RENGO's activities. RENGO also hopes to have more forms of cooperation to promote the cooperative relationship between the two sides.
It is known that one of the activities of the RENGO Delegation in Vietnam is to work with the Vietnam Education Trade Union and the Ninh Binh Provincial Labor Federation; visit a number of economic and cultural establishments in Ninh Binh and Hanoi.
