Imprints from a new model
After the reorganization, the Hai Chau Ward Trade Union, Da Nang City has 185 grassroots unions with more than 9,000 union members. And in just a short time of operation since the two-level local government officially took office, the Hai Chau Ward Labor Union has clearly demonstrated its active and proactive role in caring for and protecting the rights of union members and workers.
At the same time, the trade union also accompanies the government in building a smart and modern ward; affirming its role as a bridge between workers and businesses, the government and social organizations.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung - Chairman of Hai Chau Ward Trade Union - said: Currently, 70% of enterprises in the area have signed collective labor agreements; the quality of shift meals has been improved, no longer below VND 15,000, in some places even reaching VND 35,000.
There have been 6 "Union Shelters" with a total value of 240 million VND given to union members in difficult circumstances; dozens of gifts were also sent to the workers.
Notably, the trade union has not only stopped at traditional activities but also taken the lead in innovation. More than 100 grassroots union officials have been trained in skills in using artificial intelligence, ChatGPT tools (artificial intelligence to support dialogue).
The union also organized the screening of the historical film "Red Rain" to foster patriotism; share information about social housing, preferential loans through fanpages, Zalo groups... All of which show the quick participation, taking advantage of digital technology to serve union members.
Not only caring for workers, Hai Chau Ward Trade Union also actively participates in social security work: mobilizing the donation of textbooks to poor students, connecting with Hung Son commune, participating in the program "Each enterprise, organization, individual helps a humanitarian address".
This spread shows that the trade union is not only limited to the task of protecting workers but also contributes to building a humane and united community.
Three breakthroughs for the new term
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung, the 1st Hai Chau Ward Trade Union Congress has identified three breakthrough programs for the 2025-2030 term:
First, improve the quality of dialogue and collective bargaining, focusing on more practical and beneficial terms for employees such as: salary, bonus, shift meals, working conditions. This is not only a responsibility but also a measure of the capacity of grassroots union officials.
Second, digital transformation in trade union activities. The union aims to build a synchronous database of union members, connecting with superiors; promoting propaganda and online conferences; deploying applications for unions and worker portals. This is a step in line with the trend, towards a modern, transparent and effective trade union organization.
Third, developing union members, especially in the non-state sector - where labor relations are still complicated. The development of the organization must go hand in hand with improving the quality of union cadres, ensuring solidarity and closeness with workers.
Along with the above three breakthroughs are specific targets: 95% of enterprises with 25 or more employees will establish grassroots unions; 90% of enterprise-based unions sign collective labor agreements; 100% of cases where union members need consultation and debate have union participation; 80% of union members benefit from cultural and sports activities. These figures are both goals and commitments to demonstrate the determination to innovate.
Although the ward union model is still new, with initial results and clear orientation, the Hai Chau Ward Union is gradually becoming a bright spot, contributing to building Da Nang in general and Hai Chau ward in particular to become increasingly smart, modern and rich in humanity.
