The need for social housing for convenience
After about 10 years of working at electronics and garment companies, Mr. Le Minh Huy and his wife have 2 children, one in 6th grade, one in kindergarten. The family rents a room more than 1.5km from the workplace, with an area of less than 20m2.
According to Mr. Huy, small rented rooms make family life inconvenient, especially when children grow up, lacking space for playing and studying. Wishing to have a solid, stable house for a long time, but the financial capacity of the couple is still limited.
My husband and I earn nearly 15 million VND per month. Excluding rent, electricity, water, living expenses and taking care of elderly parents in the countryside, we are often short of money. Buying a commercial house is very difficult, so we hope to have social housing at an affordable cost," Mr. Huy shared.
Also in need of accommodation, Ms. Tran Thanh Thao, from An Truong commune, currently working at Long Duc Industrial Park. Every day, she drives a motorbike about 35km both ways. Currently, she rents a room of less than 10m2, the total room fee, electricity and water is more than 1 million VND per month.
In less than 2 months, Ms. Thao will get married to her boyfriend who is working in the same company. "When husband and wife live together, the current room is definitely not suitable. We hope to have social housing near the workplace, with a sufficient area for the family and costs suitable for workers' incomes," Ms. Thao said.
The above cases reflect the housing needs of workers in industrial parks. Workers want stable accommodation, convenient location, area suitable for families and costs within their ability to pay.
Need for more social housing supply
Mr. Le Van Tien - Chairman of the grassroots Trade Union of Ty Xuan Co., Ltd. said that the enterprise has over 18,700 workers and laborers from many localities in the province and neighboring areas. Therefore, the demand for stable housing, especially social housing, is always high.
According to a survey by the Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation, Long Duc Industrial Park has 2,493/4,094 workers, accounting for 60.89%, who have a need to rent social housing; in Hoa Phu Industrial Park, 1,447/6,344 workers, accounting for 22.8%, have a need.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Linh - Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation - said that the survey data is compiled to determine the housing needs of union members and workers by region, thereby having a basis to propose appropriate investment plans.
Accurately grasping housing needs in each industrial park is very important, because each area has a different number, conditions and needs for workers. This is the basis for researching and proposing social housing projects that are close to reality, helping workers have conditions to settle down and stabilize their lives," Mr. Linh said.
According to the Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation, the development of more social housing not only meets the housing needs of workers but also contributes to stabilizing human resources, creating conditions for workers to feel secure in working, be attached to businesses for a long time and contribute to the socio-economic development of the province.
