Listen to act
Ms. Ho Thi Lan Huong - Vice President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation said: from the end of July 2026, the Da Nang City Labor Federation will simultaneously organize activities "Month of listening to union members and workers speak".
At the city level, there will be 5 dialogue conferences at large industrial parks and Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, with about 1,400 union members and workers participating.
At the same time, all commune and ward trade unions and grassroots trade unions are required to organize appropriate forms of meetings and dialogues, striving for at least 80% of grassroots trade unions to implement this activity.
A noteworthy point is that the dialogue content does not stop at familiar issues such as salaries, bonuses, employment or working conditions, but expands to many other practical contents such as worker housing, kindergartens, loans, vocational training, digital transformation, green transformation, food safety, social security, insurance, promoting initiatives...
In particular, after each dialogue, opinions will be summarized and classified according to authority, monitoring the resolution and publicizing the results to union members and workers. The level of employee satisfaction will become a criterion for evaluating the effectiveness of trade union activities. This is a new point showing the spirit of "listening with action", instead of just stopping at recording opinions.
Closer to, understanding workers
According to Ms. Ho Thi Lan Huong, in the context of increasingly diverse labor relations and rapidly changing requirements of workers, organizing listening forums is very practical.
Ms. Ho Thi Lan Huong said that many problems of workers, if shared from the beginning, will be resolved soon, not accumulated into major grievances.
For grassroots trade unions, this is also an opportunity to closely grasp the thoughts of union members, thereby proactively coordinating with businesses to promptly solve difficulties related to life, employment, income and working conditions.
According to Ms. Huong, what workers want is not only to have a place to speak, but also to see their opinions being responded to, resolved and respected. When workers feel that their voice is valuable, their belief in the trade union organization will also be strengthened.
In fact, in recent years, Da Nang trade union levels have gradually innovated their operating methods in the direction of putting union members at the center. The implementation of "Month of listening to union members and workers speak" continues to show a shift from simple caring thinking to accompanying, listening and representing workers more substantively.
What is more promising is that this activity will not only take place during a peak month. If dialogues are maintained regularly, if each petition has a receiving address and someone is responsible for monitoring it to the end, this will become a sustainable connection channel between trade unions and union members.
From a broader perspective, effective dialogue is also the foundation for building harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations in enterprises.
When workers are listened to, businesses also have more opportunities to understand the problems arising from practice to jointly find solutions, limit disputes and improve labor productivity.
The month of listening to union members and workers" is therefore not just a program on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.
The greatest value of the program lies in affirming a new operating motto of the trade union organization, which is to be closer to workers, understand workers better and act faster from what workers need.
