Mr. Trang Hoa Phuoc (from Soc Trang province) - said that he used to work at a company in My Tho city (Tien Giang province) but this company did not have regular orders so they let workers take turns off. Since then, his income has decreased so he quit his job.
“I just got married in Chau Thanh district (Ben Tre province), so after working at a company in My Tho city (Tien Giang province), I applied for a job at a company in Chau Thanh district (Ben Tre province). My monthly income is about 6.5 million VND/month. With that income, it is enough for my family. My wife and I live with my wife's parents so we don't have to pay rent," said Mr. Phuoc.
Similar to Mr. Phuoc, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan (living in Chau Thanh district, Long An province) - said that he used to work at a company in My Tho city (Tien Giang province). Due to the lack of orders, the company had to lay off workers in rotation, which resulted in a decrease in the income of workers.
“In the face of the above situation, I quit my job and returned to my wife’s hometown to live. At home, we have 3 hectares of land to grow durian. Besides farming at home, I also work as a freelancer, doing whatever I can to earn money to cover my daily expenses,” said Mr. Tuan.
According to Mr. Tran Van Hai - Head of the Organization and Inspection Committee of the Tien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor, currently, the total number of union members in Tien Giang province is 138,781, corresponding to 1,387 grassroots unions. As of October 31, the trade unions at all levels in Tien Giang province have developed 8,002 new union members, the number of union members has decreased by more than 2,800 people.
Mr. Hai said that the reason for the labor shift affecting the development of union members is because businesses do not have orders, are dissolved... Along with that, the income is unstable and the living conditions of union members are increasingly difficult, so they have to quit their jobs and return to their hometowns to live.
Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor Le Minh Hung informed that in order to achieve the goal of developing union members and establishing grassroots unions, for units and enterprises that have not yet established a union organization, the grassroots union will coordinate with functional agencies, localities, etc. to approach employers and create conditions for union officials to meet with workers to propagate and mobilize them to join the union organization and establish a grassroots union at the enterprise.
In addition, to attract union members and establish grassroots unions, the Tien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor will continue to improve the quality of care, representation, and protection of the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers.
