In the last days of working at Nam Na Hydropower Plant, Ms. Lo Thi Huong (Phong Tho - Lai Chau) still remembers vividly the time when her family received a special gift from the trade union organization.
Her husband died early, raising two young children alone and taking care of her sick elderly mother, Ms. Huong's life has been struggling for many years in a degraded wooden house. Right at the most difficult time, she was supported by the union to repair her house from the Trade Union Shelter Fund.
Having a solid house is something I never dared to think of before. Not only material support, the union members also regularly inquire and encourage me. I really feel that I am not alone," Ms. Huong shared.
Not stopping at activities to support holidays and Tet, trade unions at all levels also supported building and repairing 35 houses for union members in difficult circumstances; building accommodation for officials and employees of Muong Te Medical Center; and promptly supporting thousands of workers affected by natural disasters, serious illnesses and particularly difficult circumstances.
In addition, the trade union organization in Lai Chau also focuses on improving the quality of daily life for workers.
The Lai Chau Provincial Labor Federation has signed cooperation agreements with 28 units and businesses in the fields of medical examination and treatment, transportation, tourism, and essential consumer goods. Thanks to this, more than 4,000 union members have enjoyed preferential services with a total benefit value of over 1 billion VND. For workers with limited incomes, savings from preferential programs have contributed to reducing spending pressure and improving the quality of life.
One of the highly appreciated models in recent times is the "Trade Union Meal" program.
At Than Uyen Tea Joint Stock Company, mid-shift meals took place in a warmer atmosphere than usual. On the dining table, there were not only improved quality dishes but also open conversations between workers, trade union officials and business leaders.
Ms. Hoang Thi Mai, a worker at the company - said that such meals help workers boldly express their thoughts and aspirations related to employment, income and working conditions.
To date, the whole province has 19 grassroots trade unions organizing "Trade Union Meals" with nearly 600 union members participating. The value of each meal ranges from 50,000 to 170,000 VND. Many union members in difficult circumstances are also given support right at the program.
In parallel with that, the implementation of the Resolution on improving the quality of lunch meals has also achieved many positive results.
Currently, 100% of enterprises with trade union organizations in the province support lunch meals for employees at a rate of 18,000 VND/person or more; some enterprises support up to 50,000 VND/person.
According to Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial Labor Federation Luong Xuan Truong, improved meal quality not only helps workers ensure health but also contributes to improving work productivity, reducing the risk of labor accidents and building a stable working environment.
