However, many people believe that age does not determine much about job opportunities.
Ms. Le Thi Vinh (33 years old; residing in Ha Dong district, Hanoi) shared that in 2023, when her income from freelance work was unstable, she tried to apply for a job at the company. However, the result made her feel quite disappointed and frustrated.
“Many companies now require young people to do marketing because they think that is the only way to keep up with social trends. There are also a few companies that accept me to work, but they pay quite low salaries,” said Ms. Vinh.
According to Ms. Vinh, this reason is only partly true because she always updates trends and changes on social networks and the internet every day. Therefore, the female employee believes that she still meets the job requirements well.
At companies that pay low salaries, Ms. Vinh said, recruiters also ask quite carefully about family status. For those over 30 years old who are still tied down with children under 6 years old, the chance of being hired is lower.
Having changed jobs three times, at the age of 31, Nguyen Van Thinh (Ha Dong district, Hanoi) is still confident that he can find another job if he loses his job. Thinh's biggest motivation is the experience he has accumulated over the past 9 years since graduating.
“Companies always need experienced and mature people rather than young people with weak abilities. If you are 30 years old and have no experience, it will be difficult for you to find a job,” said Mr. Thinh.
The reason Mr. Thinh expressed this opinion is because his most recent job change was more than a year ago. Although he was nearly 30 years old at that time, Mr. Thinh was still hired after proving his ability both during the interview and during the trial period.
Another reason given by Mr. Thinh is that 30-year-olds are often more patient and thoughtful than young people. According to Mr. Thinh, many managers have regretted hiring Gen Z and are often frustrated because Gen Z is often sulky, likes to express their own opinions excessively and… quits when bored.
Mr. Thinh added that if you don't know about new trends and technologies, you can learn them. At the same time, work experience needs to be accumulated over time to be achieved.
Mr. Tran Thanh Binh (42 years old) - Director of a swimming pool equipment company in Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi - said that age affects work quite a lot but it will depend on the specific job and the ability of each individual.
According to Mr. Binh, people over 30 years old will have more experience and better experience to make accurate decisions. Therefore, if over 30 years old and have good experience, Mr. Binh is still willing to accept and assign important management positions.
On the contrary, for young people, the director prioritizes recruiting jobs related to technology and creativity suitable for young people. That is also the reason why in Mr. Binh's company there are always enough two groups of young and middle-aged employees to handle the work most effectively.
