Online traps surround workers
Lao Dong Newspaper has published an article reflecting the situation of a part of workers in industrial parks in Can Tho City indulging in explosive game, sic bo and online bonus exchange forms. There are many cases of workers falling into debt, affecting their jobs, family lives, and even having to quit their jobs or leave their localities to evade debt.
Dr. Nhac Phan Linh - Deputy Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy of the Fatherland Front, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, assessed that the situation of workers indulging in "explosive" games is at an alarming level.
According to feedback from a business in Can Tho City, at times more than 50% of workers participated in these games. Many people not only play for entertainment, but are also "addicted", considering it an easy opportunity to make money, depositing more and more money, to the point of having to borrow, falling into a state of loss and debt with amounts from tens to hundreds of millions of VND.
Although business leaders and grassroots trade unions have repeatedly propagated and advised, preventing it still faces many difficulties. "The "explosion jar" game actually has many characteristics similar to online gambling. Players often start with small amounts of money but are very easily drawn into the winning-losing vortex and become increasingly addicted. This is a very dangerous situation," Dr. Nhac Phan Linh assessed.
He said that previously the issues often mentioned for workers were black credit, lottery or direct forms of gambling. However, "exploding jar" games are even more dangerous because of their easy access via smartphones, right at the workplace, during workers' rest hours.
Blocking "explosive" games early, from the grassroots level
According to Dr. Nhac Phan Linh, the consequences of this situation are not only limited to financial losses but also directly affect jobs, livelihoods, family life, the psychology of workers and the stability of businesses. Many cases of accumulated debt lead to job abandonment, affecting the human resources of businesses and causing instability in family life.
To prevent the above situation, he affirmed that there needs to be synchronous involvement of functional agencies, especially the police force and information technology management units to control and handle platforms showing signs of organizing online gambling.
In addition, trade union organizations need to strengthen propaganda and disseminate information about the risks of "pot explosion" games; proactively grasp the situation at enterprises to promptly advise, support, and remind employees.
According to the Report on socio-economic development results in the first 6 months of 2026 and directions and tasks for the last 6 months of 2026 of Can Tho City, the work of fighting and preventing crime in the area has been implemented drastically and achieved many positive results. In the field of social order crimes, functional forces have detected 757 cases, a decrease of 27.77% compared to the same period last year. Notably, functional agencies have dismantled 484 gambling dens, handling 2,518 related subjects.
Can Tho City Police recommends that people raise awareness of law compliance, absolutely do not participate in gambling and betting in any form, including directly or through the internet, applications and social networking platforms. According to the police agency, these acts not only violate the law but also contain many potential consequences, causing economic damage, affecting family happiness, and at the same time leading to crimes and social evils.
People are encouraged to actively participate in the "All people protect national security" movement, promptly provide information and denounce acts of organizing gambling and illegal betting for functional forces to detect, prevent and handle according to regulations, contributing to maintaining security and order, building a safe, civilized and healthy living environment.
