Many job opportunities for elderly workers

On July 2nd, in an exchange with Lao Dong reporters, Mr. Vu Quang Thanh - Deputy Director of Hanoi Employment Service Center - said that currently, on the Hanoi City's job portal, there is a section "Employment for the Elderly". In the section, there are many employers/businesses in the fields of security, manufacturing, and insurance ready to recruit elderly workers.

Also according to Mr. Thanh, the Hanoi Employment Service Center is closely coordinating with the Hanoi Association of the Elderly to have more job seekers. In which, the two sides will jointly review the quality of this labor source in the Capital to support supply to businesses in need.

Mr. Thanh said that most elderly workers looking for jobs belong to the simple qualification group such as security guards, cleaning staff, product packaging staff..., agreed salary level. In the "higher-end" segment, businesses recruit elderly workers who are consultants. This is a group of workers with qualifications and expertise who have retired, businesses have a need to recruit them to become consultants in some specialized and specific fields.

Mr. Thanh added that at the end of June 2026, the Hanoi Employment Service Center just organized a job transaction session for the elderly. The session had 26 units and businesses participating with 497 recruitment targets. Among them, the recruitment demand for elderly workers is 250 targets.

The targets are specifically for elderly workers, focusing on positions suitable for the health, experience and skills of the elderly such as security personnel, security guards, consultants, customer care staff, kitchen staff, kitchen assistants, cleaning staff, handicraft makers, hourly helpers and many other part-time, flexible jobs.

Recruitment positions have relatively suitable income levels, preferential treatment and working hours, creating conditions for the elderly to continue participating in the labor market, increasing income, and promoting their experience, skills and role," Mr. Vu Quang Thanh said.

According to Mr. Chu Tat Binh - Director of Truong Giang Human Resource Supply Service Co., Ltd. (Cua Nam ward, Hanoi), 15 years since its establishment, his company has always prioritized recruiting elderly workers.

Mr. Binh added that businesses recruiting elderly workers naturally understand the strengths and weaknesses of this group. After recruiting, businesses are ready to accompany training and retraining so that workers can feel secure in their work.

16 million elderly people - a huge resource

Talking to Lao Dong reporters, Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment - said that currently our country has more than 16 million elderly people - accounting for about 16% of the population. Among these, many people have done specific jobs, experts in many fields, and even leaders of state agencies...

According to Mr. Trung, if the elderly still have the ability to participate in the labor market, functional sectors must specifically assess the thoughts, aspirations, abilities, and needs of the elderly to have a plan to use the elderly in the right direction they desire.

The elderly must be the subject for us to aim for activities for them, revolving around them. For the elderly who are able to work and they want to continue working, want to contribute to society, we must have solutions to arrange jobs for them," Mr. Trung said.

The former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment affirmed that currently there are many businesses and organizations wishing to receive and recruit elderly people to work. Thus, as long as there is a support policy for the elderly, including support for employment issues, supply and demand in using and recruiting elderly workers will operate smoothly.

Mr. Trung said that the employment program for the elderly is quite diverse, in which it is necessary to promote consulting, training, fostering as well as supporting the elderly so that they can continue to do the jobs they usually do, switch to new fields, and even start a business.
