Those who silently keep the streets of Can Tho clean

PHONG LINH |

Can Tho City environmental sanitation workers quietly keep the streets clean, and at the same time hope that the community will join hands to protect the environment.

Working in the rain all night

Every time it rains heavily or high tides rise, countless nylon bags, styrofoam boxes and leaves follow the fast-flowing water to the sewer mouths. If not treated in time, garbage will block drainage paths, causing localized flooding on many roads in Can Tho City.

On August nights roaming with environmental sanitation workers, we fully understand their hardship and silent sense of responsibility.

Ms. Thai Thuy Tram (environmental sanitation worker in Can Tho City) shared: "The rising water has led to domestic waste pouring into the sewer, we have to collect all the stuffy garbage at the drains, clear the sewers so that the water flows out quickly, otherwise it will be prolonged flooding, affecting people's travel.

Unfavorable weather not only makes the inherently heavy and toxic work many times more difficult, but also requires environmental workers to work very urgently. Moreover, in storms and floods, there are always potential risks to traffic safety, the risk of manhole collapses or broken tree branches.

Having only been in the profession for more than a month, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huyen said that the garbage sticking underwater is extremely heavy and difficult to sweep away. In torrential rain conditions, the visibility of vehicles is limited.

At that time, workers have to both operate and focus on observing around to protect their own safety from passing cars.

Hope people are aware

When we asked about the biggest hope on the occasion of the upcoming National Day September 2nd, many environmental workers could not help but choke up because they wanted to increase their income to take care of their family's lives, especially their children in the new school year. Next, they sent sincere advice to people about environmental awareness.

Ms. Hoang Thi Nga (environmental sanitation worker, Can Tho City) expressed: "After doing business or living, I hope people collect garbage neatly into bags and tie them tightly in front. People and tourists going to festivals, using many plastic cups, should not leave them indiscriminately.

We only hope that the community will raise awareness of maintaining general hygiene, keeping the environment green, clean, beautiful, and modern.

Ms. Le Thi Suong Mai - Chairwoman of the Can Tho City Labor Federation (LĐLĐ) - acknowledged that the team of workers and laborers of Can Tho City, especially environmental sanitation workers, always silently contribute to maintaining a green, clean, and beautiful environment for the city.

Whether it's sunny or rainy, the brothers and sisters are still diligently working on each route, contributing to bringing a safe and civilized living environment to the community.

Those silent contributions are very worthy of respect and sharing.

In the coming time, the Can Tho City Labor Federation will continue to accompany and better care for the material and spiritual life, protect the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers, so that each worker is always assured and attached to their work and considers the Trade Union organization as their reliable support" - Ms. Mai added.
