Amidst the landfills with a strong smell of decomposation, Mr. Nguyen Rang Dong, a worker at the Fertilizer Factory of Soc Trang solid waste treatment complex Enterprise, Can Tho City, is still tirelessly creative, dedicated and silently creating new value from waste.
Born in 1980, graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Mr. Dong has been involved in the waste treatment industry for many years. Not only does he simply do technical work, he also directly handles organic waste in stages that generate many odors and flies, affecting the health of workers and the surrounding environment.
"With the amount of organic waste received each day, my colleagues and I have to flexibly plan and re-mix the incubation beds on schedule to ensure quality," Mr. Dong shared.
Accordingly, Mr. Dong carefully monitors the density of flies and odors in the garbage receiving areas and landfills to promptly report to technical staff for handling. Thanks to that meticulousness, the Enterprise has not had any more flies, and the odor has been significantly controlled in recent years.
Not stopping at completing his tasks, Mr. Dong is also passionate about creativity. From fruit peels such as packaging, pineapple; old belt ropes or excess bolts, he manufactured many technical tools to help reduce odor, prevent garbage from falling on the conveyor belt, and improve the operating system. He also raises local microorganisms to control the smell of organic waste, creating a safer and cleaner working environment.
"These initiatives not only save operating costs but also improve processing productivity, helping the Enterprise always achieve and exceed the target by 25 - 30%," said Mr. Dong.
Especially since being admitted to the Party in 2014, Mr. Dong has always maintained his political qualities, strictly followed discipline, was ready to take on difficult jobs, replace colleagues when needed and was often present at environmental hot spots in the processing area.
Thanks to his continuous efforts in production and high sense of responsibility, Mr. Nguyen Rang Dong has been recognized for many consecutive years as having excellently completed his tasks, and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province (old) in 2022 and 2024. In 2025, he will continue to be honored as one of 95 outstanding workers in the province.
Not only has Mr. Dong completed his professional work well, he has also actively participated in and responded to emulation movements launched by the Union and the Company. At the same time, he also played a good role as a propagandist, helping the brothers and sisters in the Workshop better understand the position, role, functions and tasks of the Vietnam Trade Union organization according to the provisions of the Constitution and the law.
