Mr. Tuyen - the owner of a boarding house in Bau village (Kim Chung commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi) said that he has nearly 20 rooms for workers to rent. Since December 25, workers have been rushing back to their hometowns. By the end of the 26th day of Tet, all the boarding houses were closed.
According to Mr. Tuyen, from the 5th and 6th of Tet, workers will return after the long Tet holiday of 2025. "During Tet, the dormitory is empty, I have to be more careful about fire prevention, fire fighting and security of the entire dormitory" - Mr. Tuyen shared.
Building the boarding house in the 2000s, in recent years, Mr. Tuyen has begun to renovate some of the degraded items. However, he still keeps the rent stable for workers, from 500,000 VND - 600,000 VND/room.
According to records at boarding houses in Hau Duong village and Mai Chau village (near Thang Long Industrial Park), the rented rooms are all deserted.
Ms. Bui Thi Thom (from Tuyen Quang) - a worker at a company specializing in assembling electronic components in Thang Long Industrial Park, said that by 10am on the 26th of Tet, the dormitory with more than 10 rooms was empty.
As for Ms. Thom, in the early afternoon of the 26th of Tet, she moved to the pick-up and drop-off area near the industrial park to catch a bus.
For Tet 2025, Ms. Thom will have 9 days off. She plans to return to her rented room on the 5th day of Tet to go to work the next morning.
"My company has a rule that on the first day of work in the new year, workers will receive lucky money from their leaders. This year is no exception, so I will have to leave my hometown and go to the capital a day early to be on time for work," said Ms. Thom.
Sharing more about the Tet bonus, Ms. Thom said that for the Lunar New Year, she received a bonus of 1 month of basic salary - equivalent to nearly 6 million VND. Her husband - an equipment assembly worker received a Tet bonus of more than 7 million VND. With the bonus of both workers, Ms. Thom's family has money to spend on this occasion.
