Ms. Nguyen Thi Sen (35 years old, Thai Binh) - a garment worker - said that in addition to working at the company, she always sells products online in her free time. During Tet, Ms. Sen spends more time posting and delivering products to customers.
“During Tet, I spend time posting products for sale at least twice a day. If customers need urgent items, even if I am tired, I will pick up the items when I get home from work to deliver. If not urgent, I will collect orders on Sunday and deliver them all at once,” said Ms. Sen.
The items that Ms. Sen prioritizes selling during Tet include green bananas, wild boar meat, beer, soft drinks, ham, and fermented pork rolls. Because she knows her suppliers, even though she sells online, Ms. Sen's items are still chosen by many people.
Sharing about her income, the female worker said that she usually earns about 1-2 million VND/month, but during Tet, her income can reach 300,000 VND/day. On Sundays, she almost has no rest and has to arrange deliveries until evening.
With the money earned from selling online, plus the Tet bonus of both husband and wife, the female worker can comfortably shop for Tet in her hometown.
Mr. Nguyen Van Giang (30 years old) - a worker in Nam Dinh - also sells extra goods at the end of the year. The items he prioritizes selling during Tet are leather jackets and vests. These two products are rarely available in the countryside and few stores sell them, so they are quite advantageous when doing business.
According to Mr. Giang, although the price of the product is not cheap, many people are still willing to spend money on Tet. His potential customers are colleagues in the company, relatives and acquaintances on social networks.
To attract and build trust with customers, Mr. Giang only imports leather jackets from a trusted establishment, advertising the same product he has been using for the past 3 years. The male worker also negotiated with the supplier to sell at a price 15% to 20% lower than the market price.
Mr. Giang shared that the income from selling leather jackets and vests during the Tet holiday was about 3 to 4 million VND. According to Mr. Giang, this money also helps him not to worry about giving lucky money to his children during Tet.
Ms. Pham Thu Hang (26 years old, Nam Dinh) is working as a garment worker. However, during Tet holiday, Ms. Hang takes advantage of the opportunity to go to her sister’s eyelash extension, nail extension, and skin care salon to work extra and increase her income. Because before, the female worker also opened a shop in this field.
“This year, I have 4 days off before Tet. I plan to spend the 26th with my husband cleaning the house, and the remaining 3 days working for my sister. Every time Tet comes, the number of customers increases, and my sister has to hire at least 2 people to help serve them,” said Ms. Hang.
The female worker shared that last year, every day she worked overtime from 8am to 9pm, her sister paid her 500,000 VND, not including commissions for selling additional products. This year, her income is expected to be similar, Ms. Hang said she will have an additional 1.5 to 2.5 million VND to spend during Tet.
Even though she always feels tired when she comes home, Ms. Hang still feels happy because the money she earns will help her and her family feel more secure during Tet.
