Apple is said to be planning to insert ads into the Map application, according to analyst Mark Gurman. The announcement may be made this month and ads are expected to appear on iPhone from the summer.
The deployment method is likely similar to Google Maps or Yelp, allowing stores and brands to appear when users search for specific keywords. In fact, advertising in Google Maps currently does not cause too much trouble, so Apple's approach is expected to be in the same direction.
Revenue from advertising can significantly strengthen Apple's service segment, which currently brings in about 100 billion USD per year, accounting for about 25% of total revenue.
However, this field is facing many challenges as regulators globally increase pressure to change the App Store policy.
Apple has not yet made official comments. The idea of putting advertising into the Real-Time Map has appeared since last year, and there have even been rumors since 2022. Previously, Apple had deployed advertising on the App Store and the News app, so expanding to the Map was not too surprising.
