The 6th ADGMIN Conference is hosted by Vietnam, gathering Ministers in charge of information technology, telecommunications and digital transformation of ASEAN member countries, ASEAN Secretary General, representatives of Dialogue Partnerships, international organizations and a large number of delegates inside and outside the region.
The Opening Ceremony of the 6th ADGMIN Conference was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam, Chairman of the 6th ADGMIN Conference sent greetings to the Ministers and delegates of ASEAN countries attending the Conference in Hanoi Capital. The Minister said that the theme of this year's ADGMIN is: "ASEAN Adaptation: From Infrastructure Connection to Intellectual Connection" reflecting a modern shift in the digital development thinking of the region.
According to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, in the past decade, ASEAN has achieved many outstanding results in connectivity, from expanding telecommunications and Internet infrastructure to deploying 4G and 5G. However, as socio-economic activities increasingly shift to the digital environment, the challenge is no longer limited to whether there is connection or not, but whether each connection creates new knowledge, new values and new adaptability.
The Minister emphasized that the transition from connecting infrastructure to intellectual infrastructure is inevitable in the digital age. ASEAN needs to aim to build a unified digital space, in which data and artificial intelligence become the core foundation, serving socio-economic development, improving the quality of life of people and the governance capacity of governments.
In that spirit, the head of the Ministry of Science and Technology believes that ASEAN needs to focus on major orientations such as: Developing digital infrastructure and intellectual infrastructure; promoting data-based digital government; building a safe and reliable digital ecosystem; improving digital capacity for people; developing high-quality human resources in new fields such as artificial intelligence, network security and data science.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed that Vietnam is ready to accompany ASEAN countries in sharing experiences, implementing joint initiatives on data, artificial intelligence and policy testing, contributing to shaping ASEAN's digital vision towards adaptability, inclusiveness, safety and sustainability.
The ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting is an important ministerial-level cooperation mechanism in the digital sector of the region, aimed at reviewing the progress of implementing cooperation frameworks and exchanging development orientations in the coming period. The 6th ADGMIN takes place in the context of digital transformation and artificial intelligence having a profound impact on all aspects of socio-economic life of ASEAN countries.
