AI platform dedicated to the medical environment
According to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon Connect Health is built on AI agents, software programs capable of performing tasks instead of humans.
In the medical field, these agents can support many processes such as scheduling appointments, confirming patient information, preparing clinical records and processing time-consuming administrative procedures.
Currently, many healthcare organizations often face difficulties with large volumes of papers and data that need to be entered manually. AWS said the new platform will help automate repetitive tasks, thereby allowing doctors and medical staff to spend more time on treatment and patient care.
A noteworthy point is that the system is designed to meet health information security standards. This AI platform is qualified to comply with HIPAA, a US regulatory body on privacy protection and integrity of personal health data.
In addition, the platform also integrates directly with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, electronic health records that are commonly used in hospitals. Thanks to this, medical staff can continue to work with familiar tools without changing the current operating procedures.
Next step in AWS's health strategy
Amazon Connect Health is not AWS's first medical product. In recent years, the company has continuously developed technology tools for the healthcare industry.
In 2018, AWS launched Amazon Comprehend Medical, an AI-powered tool to analyze medical documents and extract critical information from unstructured clinical data.
By 2021, the company continued to introduce Amazon HealthLake, a platform that helps organize and store medical data according to modern interactive standards.
Then, in 2022, AWS announced AWS HealthOmics, a system serving bioinformatics research and gene data analysis.
However, Amazon Connect Health marks the first time AWS has provided an AI-integrated platform specifically designed to operate in a medical environment and comply with strict patient data regulations.
Existing features and development plans
Currently, Amazon Connect Health has supported some functions such as verifying patient information and automatically recording clinical records. AWS said many other features are still being developed.
In which, tools such as scheduling appointments and analyzing patient information are in the preview stage.
More in-depth features such as medical encryption and system management are expected to be added in the near future.
AWS also announced a service price of about 99 USD per user per month, allowing to handle up to 600 medical examinations per month.
According to the company, most primary healthcare doctors usually manage about 300 visits per month, so this limit is considered suitable for actual needs.
