Google continues to expand its artificial intelligence ecosystem when it officially brings Opal, the AI mini application building tool, to Gemini's web platform.
This move shows Google's ambition to bring AI closer to the general user, not just programmers or technology experts.
Opal was first introduced as part of Google Labs in July, as a testing tool that allows users to build and share powerful small AI apps through natural language and intuitive editing interfaces.
Instead of writing complex code, users just need to describe the application idea, Opal will automatically connect reminders, AI models and appropriate tools to create a complete product.
On the web version of Gemini, accessing Opal is quite simple. Users just need to click on the three-brick menu icon in the upper left corner, select Gems.
Here, Google already provides many Gems, which are essentially mini apps created by Opal for users to experience.
From these pre-setups, users can choose Remix to edit, or switch to Advanced silencing to build a new app from scratch.
Although still in the testing phase, Opal is considered an AI-based programming tool with many notable features.
After users enter the desired application description, Opal will use a series of AI models to analyze requirements and propose a build process.
The results are displayed in clear steps, making it easy for users to track how the application works.
Another strength of Opal is its flexible customization capability. Users can open the edit board to see step-by-step details, change reminders, edit processing flows, or add new functions.
This helps mini applications not only stop at the testing level, but can also be tailored to meet specific personal or work needs.
Google also noted that Opal is not yet fully integrated into the Gemini system. Therefore, data and activities generated from Opal may not be displayed in the Gemini App Activities section.
However, with the web launch of Opal, Google has significantly improved its intuitive editing, making it easier to edit the steps and logic of the application.
Bringing Opal to Gemini's web platform helps lower the barrier to AI. In the future, ordinary users can completely create small AI applications for learning, working or content creation without the need for specialized programming knowledge.
