From December 13, Hanoi City Police officially inaugurated the Smart Traffic Control Center, putting into operation 1,837 cameras and an artificial intelligence (AI) lighting system in the capital.
This event marks an important step forward in traffic management and operation in a modern and smart direction, contributing to improving the effectiveness of state management of security and order, while practically serving the socio-economic development tasks of Hanoi Capital.

After 5 days, 366 violations were recorded
The new AI camera system put into operation by Hanoi City Police has the ability to record 360 degrees, identify vehicles, license plates and violations at a distance of 500700m, operating stably in all weather conditions, both day and night.
Cases with signs of violations will be automatically detected by the system, images will be extracted, and data will be transmitted to the Command Center for the authorities to review, complete the records and handle them in accordance with legal regulations.
Operating reality shows that many common violations of road traffic such as running red lights, not wearing helmets while driving motorbikes, mopeds, using a phone while driving... are automatically recorded by AI cameras with clear images, with sufficient grounds.
According to statistics from the Traffic Police Department - Hanoi City Police, from 5:00 p.m. on December 15 to 6:00 a.m. on December 17, through the AI camera system, the authorities detected and are handling 366 cases of traffic order and safety violations.
Of the total number of violations recorded, motorbikes and mopeds accounted for 271 cases. Notably, the act of not obeying traffic lights (running red lights) still accounts for a high proportion with 180 cases. In addition, the AI camera system also detected 91 cases of motorbike and motorbike drivers not wearing helmets.
For cars, the authorities recorded 95 violations, including 85 cases of not obeying traffic lights and 10 cases of stopping and parking in violation of regulations.

According to the initial assessment of the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, the AI camera system operates stably and effectively, the number of violations is recorded to have increased significantly compared to the traditional patrol and control method, and is also higher than before being officially put into operation.
Long-term archived data supports traceability
Data from the AI camera system is stored on many servers, with a maximum duration of up to 75 days. Thanks to that, the system not only records violations in real time but also supports authorities in tracing, checking and determining the journey and operation of the vehicle in the past when necessary.
Notably, recently, thanks to the support of the AI camera system, the Hanoi Police force promptly tracked down, searched and brought a lost elderly person home safely at night.
According to the information, after receiving the family's report about an old man exercising but not returning, Thanh Xuan Ward Police coordinated with the Hanoi Traffic Police Department to extract data from the AI camera system to determine the direction of the lost person's movement.
The collected images helped the authorities zoning the search area and quickly distributed support information.
During the search, thanks to the cooperation of the people, the old man was discovered in a state of poor health and was brought home safely. The family later sent their thanks to the authorities and people for their timely support.
The incident shows the clear effectiveness of the AI camera system not only in ensuring traffic order and safety but also promoting an important role in supporting social security, ensuring security and order, contributing to improving the efficiency of management and service for people in the capital.
Strictly handle cases of using tricks to use AI cameras
The Hanoi Traffic Police force assessed that since 1,837 AI cameras were put into operation, people's awareness of obeying traffic laws has been significantly improved. At many intersections during rush hour, traffic participants proactively stopped at red lights and lined up to order.
However, the authorities still recorded many cases of deliberately using tricks to bypass the AI camera, such as covering, pasting license plates, affecting the reflective layer, changing the color of license plates (mainly motorbike and motorbike drivers)...
Recorded in the past 2 days, dozens of cases of violations of the above violations have been handled by the authorities. For covering or pasting license plates, motorbike and motorbike drivers will be fined from 46 million VND and have their driving license points deducted by 4 points.

This is an intentional act ofpassing an AI camera to commit other violations. In addition to the recording of AI cameras, we will continue to increase patrols, control, promptly detect and strictly handle violations, emphasized Major Do Manh Cuong - officer of Road Traffic Police Team No. 6.
The Traffic Police Department - Hanoi City Police recommends that traffic participants should give up the mentality of dealing with, avoiding cameras, and voluntarily complying with the law, thereby contributing to building a safe and civilized traffic culture in the capital.
