Google has denied the information that the Gemini artificial intelligence chatbot platform will start showing ads in 2026.
Previously, a report from AdWeek said that Google is working with advertisers and has even negotiated with two customers to bring ads to Gemini next year. However, the latest statement from Google has clarified all speculation.
In a post on X, Dan Taylor, Vice President of Google Global Advertising, confirmed that the above story was built on anonymous sources with missing information and making inaccurate assumptions.
There are no ads in the Gemini app at the moment and there are no plans to change that, Taylor stressed.
Gemini is currently one of the most popular AI chatbots thanks to its installation on most Android devices.
Gemini's monthly active users have increased by 30% globally, the report said. This breakthrough is considered one of the reasons why OpenAI CEO Sam altman had to "ring alert", requesting to accelerate the development of a new generation of LLM code-named "Garlic".
Despite deniing the plan to add ads to Gemini, Google is still testing ads in Google Search's AI mode.
This makes many people believe that commercializing AI models is just a matter of time. In addition, the technology community is also paying attention to leaked information that the beta version of ChatGPT on Android has mentioned advertising-related factors such as "market content" or "search advertising".
In the AI chatbot race, ChatGPT is still leading with 50% of total global mobile downloads and accounts for 55% of monthly active users.
Meanwhile, Sensor Tower believes that Gemini's recent strong growth has been driven largely by a new AI photo creation model called Nano Banana, which has attracted a large number of young users.
Although there is no specific plan, advertising appearing in AI models is expected to be just the next step in the product commercialization strategy of large technology corporations.
Currently, Google is still holding that Gemini will not display ads next year.
