Instagram is about to give users more autonomy in content display algorithms

Instagram is testing more new tools that allow users to proactively adjust content appearing on the news feed.

The head of Instagram - Adam Mosseri - said that the platform is expanding the "Your Algorithm" feature, helping users better control the content they want to see or do not want to see.

According to Mr. Mosseri, Instagram's goal is to turn this tool from a simple installation item into an important part of the daily usage experience.

“We want to develop your Algorithm into a core element in the Instagram experience. Some features are being tested, some will be launched soon and others may not be deployed,” he said.

Test images show that users can quickly access the algorithm customization section by scrolling down on the homepage or swiping up when viewing Reels.

Instagram is also testing the addition of buttons right below video Reels, allowing users to choose to watch more or less similar content in the future.

The "Your Algorithms" feature was introduced by Instagram last year, allowing users to set up favorite topics as well as content they want to limit appearing on the news feed.

However, the reaction of the online community shows that many users still want a more fundamental change.

The comment received the most agreement under Adam Mosseri's post: "We just want the algorithm to prioritize displaying the accounts we are tracking.

This request reflects the prolonged dissatisfaction of a part of users with Instagram increasingly prioritizing content proposed by algorithms instead of posts from friends, relatives and followers.

Observers believe that giving more control to users can help Instagram balance the goal of retaining users with algorithms and the need to personalize experiences according to each person's preferences.
