According to MacRumors, Apple may be preparing a "stronger hierarchy" strategy for the iPhone line, by focusing many new technologies on the Pro and Pro Max models instead of dividing them equally across the entire product line.
Apple is said to be changing the iPhone launch schedule from 2026. Instead of launching the entire iPhone line at the same time in the fall as in previous years, the company may only launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and folding iPhone model at the end of 2026. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 versions may be moved to the spring of 2027.
If this plan becomes a reality, users who want to upgrade their iPhones right in the end of the year will almost only have the option of high-end models with more expensive prices.
AppleInsider quoted sources from the supply chain as saying that separating the launch schedule is not only for marketing but also related to Apple's production strategy and prioritizing the best-selling high-end models.
At the same time, most of the major upgrades rumored for iPhone 18 are also focused on the Pro Max line, such as the 2nm process A20 Pro chip, changed aperture camera, larger battery and smaller Dynamic Island.
This raises the opinion that Apple may be widening the gap between the standard iPhone line and the Pro Max line in order to attract users to the more expensive segment.
Some experts also believe that this strategy could help Apple increase revenue in the context of the increasingly competitive high-end smartphone market and the continuous escalation of component costs.
