According to information from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models expected to be launched in the spring of 2027, Apple may increase the RAM capacity from 8GB to 9GB.
According to Mr. Kuo, the A20 chip on these two models will use 6 DRAM chips, each chip with a capacity of 1.5GB, raising the total RAM to 9GB. Meanwhile, the current standard iPhone 17 models are equipped with 4 DRAM chips, each chip 2GB, for a total capacity of 8GB.
This analyst said that iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are likely to be introduced by Apple around March or April 2027.
Previously, the company expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the folding screen iPhone model in the fall of 2026. These three devices are expected to continue to have 12GB of RAM, similar to the iPhone 17 Pro line.
Increasing RAM on iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e is to better meet AI tasks, while ensuring that the device can fully exploit the Apple Intelligence features that will appear on iOS 27.
Apple has not yet confirmed the above information. However, if Ming-Chi Kuo's prediction is accurate, this will be a rare time that iPhone models not belonging to the Pro line have been significantly upgraded in memory, in order to keep up with the trend of AI becoming increasingly the focus on mobile devices.
