In the new update, GPT-5 is promoted as smarter, fastest and most useful ever, while removing the option of choosing a model, by default using GPT-5.
This system uses real-time routing to automatically switch between an efficient model for simple questions and an in-depth argument model for complex requirements.
However, the initial implementation had problems, causing GPT-5 to receive many disappointments, according to CEO Sam altman. In a discussion on Reddit, Sam altman affirmed that the writing quality of GPT-5 is better, but questioned whether users felt the same way. Many comments said that GPT-5 was "dried up", "asick" and replied "short to the point of dryness".
In response, altman announced on X that OpenAI would allow users of the Plus package to choose between GPT-5 and GPT-4o, admitting that it had ned down the level of user engagement with GPT-4o.
Although GPT-4o is back, Sam altman said OpenAI will monitor the level of use to decide how long to maintain the old models. Meanwhile, the company is continuing to deploy GPT-5 and seeking solutions to improve quality.
