Speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman dismissed Elon Musk's $97.4 billion offer to buy the nonprofit that controls OpenAI, calling it "an attempt to slow us down."
“Musk is clearly a competitor. He’s raised a lot of money for his AI company xAI and they’re trying to compete with us on the technology side,” Altman said.
Altman almost immediately rejected Musk’s offer in a public post earlier, and it’s likely that OpenAI’s board will also formally reject the deal, though it may not happen immediately.
Larry Summers, a member of the OpenAI board of directors, also said he had not received "any official information about this proposal other than media reports."
Earlier, a group of investors led by Elon Musk made a $97.4 billion offer to buy the nonprofit that controls OpenAI. Observers said the proposed acquisition could increase tensions between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
