Samsung sets a new standard for foldable OLED displays that can withstand 500,000 folds, opening up a durable future for high-end foldable smartphones.

Samsung once again affirmed its leading position in the field of foldable OLED screens when announcing a breakthrough in durability.

The company's latest foldable OLED panel has passed 500,000 folding tests while still operating normally, double the previous standard.

Tests conducted by the international certification organization Bureau Veritas over 13 days at 25 degrees Celsius confirmed the screen's outstanding endurance. With this durability, the device can be used for up to 10 years if the user folds it up an average of 100 times per day. This is an impressive number in the mobile device industry.

This is the result of a new display architecture developed by Samsung Display, inspired by bulletproof principles. Multi-layer structures, including highly elastic glue and UTG (ultra-thin) glasses, are increased in thickness by 50%, helping to absorb and distribute effective impact force, increasing impact resistance to four times higher than the previous generation.

Not only has the outside protective layer been upgraded, the internal support frame has also been improved with light titanium material, thinner but more durable than traditional materials.

The new design also applies a flat structure to help distribute force evenly across the entire surface, protecting the floor better.

The OLED panel used in the test is the one equipped with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the latest foldable phone model to be launched. This means that users will experience impressive durability right on commercial products.

Mr. Hojung Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung Display, affirmed: "The new foundation not only enhances confidence in the durability of foldable OLED technology, but also demonstrates the technological advantages that Samsung Display has in the industry".

With this breakthrough, Samsung is setting a new standard for future folding devices, where durability is no longer a limitation, but a competitive advantage.
