Apple has just added a series of new features for AirPods in the iOS 26 Beta 3 update, enhancing the listening, control and daily use experience.
One of the most notable features is Pause Audio for Sleep - allowing AirPods to automatically stop playing music or podcast when users start sleeping. This is a useful feature, especially for those who have the habit of listening to sound while sleeping, both protecting the battery and avoiding affecting deep sleep.
The plus point is that this feature does not require an H2 chip, so most AirPods users can use it.
In contrast, high-end features such as studio-quality audio recording, remote camera control (Camera Remote) and enhanced Voice Quality will only be available on AirPods models using H2 chips (AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4).
High-quality recording will be very useful for those who need to record podcasts, take clear voice notes or interview remotely. Meanwhile, the camera control feature allows users to press a button on AirPods to take photos or videos with the iPhone, which is very convenient for taking group photos or vlogging.
With the feature of improving voice quality, users will have the experience of calling FaceTime or Zoom with clearer sound, limiting surrounding noise.
iOS 26 also adds the ability to automatically switch headphones when connected to CarPlay. When the iPhone is connected to CarPlay on the vehicle, AirPods will automatically switch players, helping users listen to music, podcast or make seamless calls without manual operations.
This is also a feature that does not require an H2 chip, so most AirPods users can experience it.
To use these features, users need to upgrade to iOS 26 beta 3 and turn on the beta update option for AirPods. Apple is expected to release an official release in the fall of this year.
