Artificial Intelligence or artificial intelligence (AI) is a field in the field of computer science to create a system that can react intelligently like humans.
Intelligent Transport systems (ITS) is not too new in the world. The idea of this system was initiated in the 60s and 70s of the last century in the US and European countries. To date, this model has been successfully applied in many major cities around the world.
Smart transportation systems are a technology used to solve problems of road traffic, including handling accidents and traffic congestion. Basically, ITS will use information connections between the transportation system, moving vehicles and humans to form a network, thereby optimizing operations and participation in the traffic regulation process.
In Asian countries, after the Chinese government launched the "city brain" project, the traffic congestion and accidents here have improved significantly, this is also the first city in the world to manage community issues with the support of AI technology.
The core of the city brain system is an AI center that specializes in processing big data, helping it think and make better decisions. Accordingly, a camera network is installed to monitor all activities and traffic conditions in the city 24/7, helping traffic police regulate vehicles and react faster to accidents on the road.
In addition, in early 2018, Malaysia also became the first country in Southeast Asia to use an AI called a smart brain developed by Alibaba to deal with traffic jams.
Not only that, Korea is a pioneer in applying technology to develop a Smart Traffic System. The country's capital Seoul is considered the city with the world's best smart transportation system, where the government has established a transportation operating system called TOPIS. When accessing this system, people will be provided with information related to traffic status. For those waiting for a bus, this information includes the specific location of the accompanying bus, the expected time to arrive at the station and the number of empty seats on the bus.
Recently, the US Congress has also issued a request to car manufacturers in this country, which is to invent a technology to prevent drunkards from driving cars. Sam Abuelsamid, currently working for market research firm Guidehouse Insights, said that the most modern system and one that can prevent drunk driving is infrared cameras that monitor driver behavior. These cameras will identify drivers who are observing the road, turn on warning lights when the driver shows signs of sleepiness or weakness, as well as slow down and move to the side of the road if the driver deliberately ignores the warning.
In the UK, the new artificial intelligence technology developed by technology company Now wireless has an accuracy of about 97%, which will predict air pollution levels one hour in advance based on air quality data and the number of vehicles traveling on the road recorded by a camera. It can predict traffic jams 1 hour in advance within just 48 hours of installing the application. For local governments, which are facing increasing congestion and poor air quality, new technology predicts an alternative to a complete ban on vehicles.
The successful application of artificial intelligence is a solution to the problem of transportation that is increasingly difficult due to the rapid development of vehicles participating in traffic in developed countries today.
