Nuts that can cause acne
According to nutritionist Deepalakshmi at Shree Balaji Medical Center (Chennai, India), nuts and dried fruits are rich in nutrients, but if not consumed properly, they can cause skin problems.
"Nuts are rich in omega-6 fatty acids, such as walnuts and peanuts, and overconsumption can promote inflammation, a major cause of acne. An imbalance between omega-6 and omega-3 can stimulate an inflammatory response, making the skin worse, says Dr. Deepalakshmi.
However, not all nuts are harmful. Nuts such as macadamia, almonds, pears and chestnuts are lower in omega-6, which are considered safer for people prone to acne. These nuts are also rich in vitamin E and selenium, which help protect skin cells and support skin health.
Dried fruits and acne
Dried fruits such as raisin, dates and apricot trees have a high glycemic index, which can suddenly increase insulin levels in the body. This stimulates oil production and inflammation, two major factors that cause acne.
Dr. Deepalakshmi recommends that people who are prone to acne should limit dried fruits and choose less sugary foods such as unsweetened cranberries or dried plums.

"Including foods rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, while ensuring adequate water intake, will help keep skin healthy," says Deepalakshmi.
