The Dao people are one of the ethnic minority communities living concentrated in many villages and hamlets in Thong Nhat commune (Quang Ninh), still deeply preserving traditional culture. Before the modern pace of life, Party committees, authorities and local people are gradually preserving and promoting the unique cultural values of the Dao ethnic group, according to the Quang Ninh Electronic Information Portal (TTĐT).
In recent years, along with socio-economic development, many people, especially the younger generation, tend to use modern clothing because it is convenient and suitable for new life.
Faced with that reality, Thong Nhat commune promotes propaganda and mobilization of Dao people to maintain wearing traditional costumes during holidays, Tet, important rituals and daily life.
In many villages and hamlets, people still maintain self-sewing and embroidery of costumes as a cultural habit. Classes teaching hand embroidery techniques and creating traditional patterns are organized, contributing to arousing pride and awareness of preserving national identity in the community, especially the young generation.

Ms. Trieu Thi Loan, a resident of Dong Quang village, said that each traditional costume must be made in many months, even years. In recent years, Dao women in the village have maintained hand embroidery, teaching pattern creation techniques through small groups or clubs with the guidance of elderly artisans. Thanks to that, more and more women and young students know how to embroider traditional costumes.
Along with preserving costumes, the Dao people in Thong Nhat commune also preserve many traditional customs and beliefs such as worshiping Ban Vuong, wedding rituals, and praying for harvests. Among them, the Cap Sac ceremony - a ritual marking the maturity of the Dao man - is still preserved through many generations.
At the beginning of 2026, Thong Nhat commune put into operation the Dao ethnic cultural conservation area in Dong La village. This is a place to preserve and display traditional cultural values such as costumes, language, writing, folk songs, folk knowledge and cultural activities of the Dao people in the area.
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc The - Head of the Culture and Social Department of Thong Nhat commune, since the conservation area went into operation, the locality has organized classes to teach the Dao language, Nom script, Hat Doi, dances and folk songs for the younger generation. This is also a community activity place for the Dao people.
In the coming time, Thong Nhat commune will continue to promote propaganda and support artisans to open more classes to teach writing, speaking, embroidery and effectively exploit the Dao ethnic cultural reserve, contributing to preserving and spreading traditional cultural values in the new commune space after the merger.
