Over the past 5 years, nearly 600 households in Dong Cau, Binh Ca, Cay Nhan villages (Yen Son commune, Tuyen Quang province) no longer have to worry about daily domestic water sources when the clean water supply project was put into use in 2021.
Previously, people mainly used well water or water from streams, in the dry season it was almost water shortage while still worried about water quality. With clean water, we are completely assured, health is more guaranteed," said Ms. Ban Thi Ly (Yen Son commune).
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment (NNMT) of Tuyen Quang province, from 2021 to now, with different sources of capital, more than 10 water supply projects have been invested in construction, repair, and upgrade to connect water pipelines for tens of thousands of households in rural areas and ethnic minority areas.

Currently, the percentage of rural people in Tuyen Quang province using hygienic domestic water reaches over 97%, of which over 51% have used clean water that meets quality standards.
The Rural Clean Water Center of Tuyen Quang province is managing 75 water supply projects, of which 37 projects operate sustainably, and 16 projects operate relatively sustainably. The remaining projects are subject to review and upgrade to improve exploitation efficiency.
In fact, the management and operation of clean water supply works at the commune level is still facing some difficulties such as lack of maintenance and repair funds. Water quality at some works does not meet requirements, and management and operation capacity at the grassroots level is still limited.
In the northern highland communes of Tuyen Quang province, during the peak dry season, water storage facilities are depleted, causing many difficulties for daily life and production. People in the highlands have to seek water from mountain crevices to serve their drinking needs.

Statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Environment show that by the end of 2025, the whole country had 74.23% of rural households using standard water, of which 54.92% used clean water from centralized water supply works and 19.31% used water from household water supply.
However, rural clean water supply still faces many challenges and large disparities between regions. The Red River Delta has the highest rate of households using clean water that meets standards with 89.73%, while the midlands and northern mountainous areas are the lowest, reaching only 46.51%.
The Northern mountainous region is currently also the area with the lowest rate of clean water use from centralized water supply works in the country, only 18.44%.
