Waiting for clean water
In early December 2025, Ms. Vu Mai Hoa (village 7, Trung Gia commune, Hanoi) called a repairman to her house to replace 3 filters for her family's water filtration system. Every time she changes the filter, she " handsome" it because the filter has changed from pure white to golden brown.
According to Ms. Hoa, for many years now, people in neighboring areas have had clean water to use. However, there has been no sign of a clean water pipe installed in her house. About a month ago, the National Highway 35 area - about 200m from my house - began drilling the road to install a clean water pipeline. Everyone has clean water to use, but my family still has to use well water, said Ms. Hoa.
Similarly, the family of Mr. Hoang Hung (Suoi Nong, Xuan Ban village, Trung Gia commune, Hanoi) is also looking forward to using clean water every day.
According to the reporter's investigation, Trung Gia commune is within the water supply area managed by Hanoi Clean Water Joint Stock Company No. 2.
Previously, on October 6, 2025, the Hanoi Department of Construction issued document No. 13343/SXD-CTN requesting Hanoi Clean Water Joint Stock Company No. 2 to speed up the progress of water supply for people in the area.
According to information from Hanoi Clean Water Joint Stock Company No. 2, for the water supply system of Trung Gia commune (the environmentally affected area in the area of 3 communes of Nam Son, Bac Son, Hong Ky before), the company has invested in a water supply system for all areas of people in the environmentally affected area with a radius of up to 1,000m and some neighboring customers in the affected area.
Currently, the water supply is sourced from 9 local water production stations, these are underground water exploitation stations in the area, with extremely limited reserves, and has so far maximized capacity, making it impossible to expand water supply to the remaining areas of the 3 communes (not ensuring flow and pressure).
"Therefore, to expand water supply to all people in Nam Son and Bac Son communes, Hong Ky needs to source from the city's centralized water supply system. The company has coordinated with the People's Committee of Trung Gia commune to introduce the land location for the supercharging station. It is expected to be completed in the period of 2026-2027" informed Hanoi Clean Water Joint Stock Company No. 2.
Talking to Lao Dong, a representative of Trung Gia Commune People's Committee said that up to now, 7,772/14,597 households in the commune have been provided with clean water, reaching a rate of 55%. "We will continue to urge water supply units to develop detailed water supply plans for each commune, coordinate with villages to review each residential area to ensure the water supply rate reaches 100% of households," said a representative of Trung Gia Commune People's Committee.
359/413 communes in Hanoi have access to clean water
According to Program No. 03-CTr/TU dated March 17, 2021 of the Hanoi Party Committee on "Enhancing urban areas, developing urban areas and urban economy of Hanoi City for the period 2021-2025", the city aims to have 100% of households have access to centralized clean water by 2025.
Up to now, according to information from the Hanoi Department of Construction, there are 359/413 communes (106/126 communes after the arrangement of administrative units from July 1, 2025), equivalent to 98% of rural households having access to clean water.
There are still 20 communes after the administrative unit arrangement that have not completed connecting clean water. Most of these communes are located at the end of the source, so operation depends largely on the progress of the source project and the transmission pipeline. Of these, 15 communes have achieved a connection rate of 90-95%, but it is not yet completed due to unstable source pressure. There are 4 other communes that have only reached 70-85%, because the main pipeline is not yet complete. Only Ba Vi commune is still using self- moving water and is being studied for investment in a clean water supply network.
Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Nguyen The Cong said that the city requires water supply enterprises to speed up the completion of projects, especially the Red River Surface Water Plant and the transmission pipeline system. The completion of the framework pipelines will stabilize water pressure in the communes at the end of the source and support the synchronous completion of local water supply projects.
