According to Lai Chau Electronic Information Portal, the Standing Committee of Lai Chau Provincial Party Committee just held a meeting to listen to the Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee report on the situation of livestock development, the results of land fund review and proposed plans and policies for large-scale concentrated livestock development in the area on June 25.
Lai Chau has many favorable conditions to develop livestock farming in a modern, biosafety and sustainable direction. Currently, the province's total livestock herd reaches 370,600 heads, including 84,900 buffaloes, 30,000 cows and 255,700 pigs. The total poultry herd reaches 1.896 million heads.
The whole province has 280 farm-scale livestock facilities, including 4 large facilities, 34 medium facilities and 242 small facilities. Among them, 30 facilities apply the closed barn model and biogas system. However, household livestock farming still accounts for a large proportion with 91% of the total livestock herd and 98% of the total poultry herd. The province currently has 7 enterprises, 30 cooperatives operating in the livestock sector; 2 processing linkage facilities for C.P Vietnam Company; 7 livestock facilities and 67 processing facilities certified for food safety.
According to the Lai Chau province plan for the period 2021 - 2030, 26 communes and wards are allocated 1,238ha of land for concentrated livestock development. Through review, the actual demand of localities is up to 2,574ha at 37 locations in 10 communes and wards.
Some localities with large land funds include Nam Tam 630ha, Pac Ta 626ha, Nam So 371ha, Muong Kim 343ha and Nam Cuoi 298ha. These are areas with favorable conditions to form large-scale commodity livestock areas associated with processing and product consumption.
The province is also promoting investment attraction in this field. Currently, there are 13 projects approved for investment, including 11 livestock projects and 2 animal feed production projects. Among them, 3 projects have been put into operation with a scale of 14,600 pigs/batch; 8 projects are being implemented with a scale of more than 70,000 fattening pigs and 7,200 sows.
In addition, 8 businesses are surveying and proposing 9 new projects with a scale of about 147,700 fattening pigs, 14,500 sows and 30,000 poultry.
To create motivation to attract businesses, the province proposes a specific support mechanism for large-scale cattle, pig, and chicken farming projects such as supporting land recovery costs, compensation for site clearance for projects over 100ha; supporting infrastructure investment in project fences, digital transformation in animal husbandry and applying preferential tax policies according to regulations.
